KALAW RESTO + BAR : Cebu's Mountainside Resto + Aviary



Hidden in the mountain part of Lahug, Cebu City, is Kalaw Resto+Bar.  We wanted to eat somewhere new and exciting, and luckily we found this amazing place.  We knew about this restaurant through a post from a family friend, and it literally drew us curious, especially if you have a kid who loves to see animals.

Its location was easy to find since we are familiar where Holy Family Retreat House is.  If you're coming from JY Square Mall going up to Marco Polo, it's a bit further.  While Marco Polo is located on the right side of the road, its street is on the left.  See Photo by Google Map:
Since it was too early for dinner, we decided to visit the aviary located right down below the restaurant.  True to its name, there are many Kalaw birds and various others, too.  But we were not able to hold them unlike this Cockatoo.

After that amazing experience with the birds, we then went back up the restaurant to take pictures and breathe in the gorgeous view of the city.
They serve mainly Singapore-inspired dishes.  It's more for the sweet and spicy taste buds, but just request to have the amount of spice adjusted.  And yes, it was quite a sumptuous meal.

Something to Chew on:

  • Parking would be an issue if the place gets packed, so be sure to be early.
  • There are no taxi or PUVs that would pass by there since it's not located along the main road, so opt. to have the staff call for a taxi or just have mobile apps like Grab, Ankas, or Uber.
  • They don't allow visitation of the aviary at night.  If you prefer seeing the birds, go there by lunch or just before dark.
  • The whole place could be reserved at times.  Be sure to call or check out their page before going, especially during the holiday season.

The view, the service and the aviary experience made the experience wonderful.  As for their food, it was not necessarily along our taste alley but it was interesting. Location wise, it was hard to locate since it wasn't along the main road.  Also, parking would be an issue and plus the pathway is a little bit narrow for meeting vehicles.  But otherwise, we had a great time.

TERRAZAS DE FLORES : Cebu's City Retreat

You're probably too stressed from work or school, yet you just don't have the budget or the time for another vacation outside of Cebu. This was the same thought our family had when we were planning for our mom's birthday. Everybody only had half a day to de-stress and celebrate.
