French Toast with Caramelized Apples

Early morning yum. Nowadays, most individuals are growing more health conscious; watching what they eat, exercise, and some other health regimen. People are becoming more and more keen towards their outlook about health in general.

For most Filipinos, like me, rice is something that is stable on the table - breakfast, lunch, dinner. But sometimes, you just want to munch on something different. Something sweet? Yes! Something healthy? Most definitely! A fast and easy alternative would be some toast and apples. I love apples! They're sweet and crunchy, plus the added nutrition, too. Who wouldn't want that? Antioxidants and dietary fibers that apples contain would be so fab to have. And of course, do have some bread to gain energy for your morning routines.

But let's take it up a notch, and let's make a simple apples and toast exciting.

CARAMELIZED APPLES

Prep Time: 5 mins.
Cooking time: 15-20 mins.

Ingredients:
1 piece apple - sliced into cubes
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup butter, unsalted
1/3 cup water

Directions:
  1. In a saucepan, pour the sugar and set the stove on low heat. Constantly tilt and swirl the sauce pan to evenly melt sugar. Continue this step until sugar has completely dissolved and turned golden.
  2. Then, stir in butter until melted. Add in the apples. Saute the apples in the mixture to evenly coat them. Lastly, add the water. Turn the heat to medium-high and let it boil for 10 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the sauce has thickened.
  3. Remove from the saucepan and let it cool for 15 minutes before using.
Note:  You can go ahead and make your caramelized apples in big batches ahead of time, and then store it in a clean jar and keep refrigerated.

French Toast

Prep Time: 5 mins.
Cooking Time: 10-15 minutes

Ingredients:
6 slices of white bread
1 egg
1 tsp cinnamon powder
2 tbsp granulated sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp canola oil

Directions:
  1. In a bowl, beat egg, milk, sugar, and cinnamon.
  2. Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium heat.
  3. Briefly dunk in each side of the bread into the mixture. Avoid soaking the bread for it will make the toast soggy.
  4. Place in the pan and cook each side until golden.
  5. Serve hot.

For the finale, assemble your dish.
